Ganesha on Lotus Tanjore Painting – Orange Skin, Circular Halo, Black Frame

Description

This Ganesha Tanjore painting shows the Lord seated on a large pink lotus that rises from a pond of water lilies. His orange skin glows against a red circle, which sits inside a circular prabhavali (halo) set with stones. He holds a plate of modak and raises one hand in the blessing (abhaya) gesture. His mouse waits at the bottom left, and bowls of fruit and modak are placed as offerings below. A scrolled gold-foil arch with pearl-like dot beading frames the scene. It is made with embossed work and natural pigments in the traditional Thanjavur style, and framed under glass in a black beaded wooden frame.
